EMV Capital operates a unique, dual-channel investment approach:
Venture Build
- The Venture Build programme consists of companies where EMV Capital takes major equity stakes.
- These are companies where there exists strong, defensible IP and clear growth potential.
- EMV Capital enters at an attractive initial valuation that reflects the significant value creation opportunity ahead.
- EMV Capital works intensively alongside management to advance the companies to key commercial and technical milestones.
- Companies are supported through EMV Capital’s Value Creation Services and corporate finance practices.
- This is an active, concentrated strategy, designed to generate outsized returns.
Co-Invest
- The co-invest portfolio provides exposure to new deals and follow-ons from the wider EMV Capital group portfolio and ecosystem in exciting high-growth companies.
- These investments typically involve smaller stakes, where the fund is investing alongside other institutional VCs, large corporates and other external investors.
- They require less active support from EMV Capital.
- This is a strategy designed to offer the benefits of diversification and exposure to growth.
The Fund aims to invest in up to eight, equally sized investments within a 12-month period. EIS3 tax certificates are provided following each investment.

EIS Tax Reliefs
EIS investors can receive a mix of upfront and ongoing tax reliefs. For latest details see HMRC guidance here
Up to 30% income tax relief
You may be eligible to claim 30% income tax relief on investments of up to £1 million in the current or previous tax year, or up to £2 million if at least £1 million is invested in knowledge-intensive companies.
Tax-free growth
Investing in an EIS fund can be a tax-advantageous way to supplement other long-term investments, such as a pension fund or ISA, if you have reached the maximum contribution limits for those accounts.
Capital gains deferral
Additionally, you may be able to defer paying capital gains tax on any realised gains for up to three years before or one year after the allocation of your EIS shares.
Inheritance tax relief
If you hold your shares for at least two years and they remain in your possession at the time of your death, 100% of your investment may qualify for inheritance tax relief (subject to limits on Business Relief).
Loss relief on exit
While the potential for growth in the EIS fund, which invests in early-stage or start-up businesses, is significant, and any capital gains are tax-free, you may claim up to 45% loss relief on your investment if it does not perform as expected. This loss relief may be applied to offset income tax at your marginal rate or capital gains.
EMV Capital does not provide tax advice; tax treatment depends on the individual circumstances of each person or entity and could also change in the future (some EIS tax benefits may require a holding period of at least 3 years). Investors should seek independent professional tax advice regarding EIS for tax relief.
